13 - Playa Maguey

This 1700'+ beach is part of the Huatulco National Park Reserve, it has several restaurants located right on the beach.  It is such a nice experience to eat with your feet in the sand. Although, the staff can be a little aggressive in trying to sell their services. The food is good and the prices are average for a tourist area. I have seen many people bring a sack lunch to picnic on the beach away from the restaurants. This beach has two distinct characteristics. The west side is more exposed to the ocean and tends to have larger waves that can sometimes be strong. On the Eastern side (bay area) the waves are smaller and you can snorkel in this area. This beach tends to get busier as the day goes on. This beach is about a 15-minute drive from the Santa Cruz Bay area. It can also be accessed easily from the water.
